HEADACHES?? Is your food causing them??

Headaches:

Food allergies and chemical sensitivities are one of the main causes of headaches, whether they are chronic headaches, tension headaches, migraines or even “cluster” headaches. The foods and chemicals we ingest every day are 100% responsible for how we feel in our body.

There are several main food allergies that I want to talk about:

MSG (Monosodium Glutamate or otherwise labeled as Glutamic Acid or Glutamate) — This chemical is commonly found in Chinese food; salad bars; fast food restaurants; sausages; luncheon and deli meats and cheeses; frozen meals, canned foods such as soups and vegetables; canned parmesan cheese; soy sauce; salad dressings; packaged gravies, etc.). Basically any kind of processed or pre-packaged food has a pretty good chance of having MSG in it, so be sure to read the label and avoid it! The other problem with this chemical is that the government allows food manufacturers to use other names for it. So when you’re checking labels be sure to check for these ingredients also: caseinate, autolyzed yeast enzymes, beef or chicken broth, natural flavoring, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, soy protein concentrates, soy isolates and autolyzed yeast extracts. These names are all disguised names for glutamates, but the FDA allows these names to be used as long as the actual glutamate is less than 99 percent pure! So watch out and read your labels!

Aspartame (50% of which is Phenylalanine) – This toxic chemical is common in so many things: Diet Sodas, flavored drinks, chewing gum, juice, frozen foods, yogurt, diet or no-sugar foods. Aspartame is absolutely insidious and should be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately, as a nation, we are consuming WAY too much of it because it is in everything. Anything diet related or sugar free, is going to have this chemical in it. Even if you’re just simply chewing gum, that’s enough…there is enough of that chemical in a stick of gum to completely disrupt your brain chemistry! If you’re chewing gum because you’re worried about your breath, you can use

Peppermint Essential Oil instead and that will freshen your breath, and it is completely 100% pure and toxic-free.

Artificial Sweeteners (Splenda (Sucralose), Saccharin, etc.) - These are the pink, blue and yellow packets you see on restaurant tables. They are commonly added to Iced Tea or Coffee to sweeten. But beware! These chemicals significantly affect brain chemistry and absolutely can be causing your headaches. So opt for using REAL sugar, or carry packets of “Stevia” (an herbal sweetener) with you.

Food Colorings – Beware of the food dye colorings in some foods like juice, ready-made meals, frozen foods, cereals, cakes, cookies, chips, frostings, etc. Red Dye #40and Yellow Dye #5 in particular are very common additives in many items such as yogurt, flavored powdered drinks; Energy drinks, etc. so please check your label and avoid food dyes as these are known to trigger headaches.

Other Known Food Triggers – Here is a list of some common foods that have been shown to cause headaches….yellow cheeses (cheddar), aged cheeses (blue cheese, gorgonzola, etc.), caffeine, chocolate, beer, wine, mushrooms, pickled meats like herring, wheat products (bread and pasta), nitrates in hot dogs, lunch meat, dairy foods.
Also, there are the other triggers like lack of sleep, lack of exercise, too much stress, not drinking enough water and hormonal fluctuations. In the event that you are now suffering with a headache, here are some remedies for headaches:
~~ Soak your feet in a tub of hot water and apply ice pack to the back of the head
~~ Have a friend rub your neck and scalp
~~ Rub Peppermint or Lavender Essential Oil on your temples (be VERY careful to avoid your eye area!!!) or at the base of your neck
~~ Drink fresh Ginger Tea

Best advice…..Avoid the “fake” foods. No “Diet”, “low/no fat” or “no-sugar” type of foods. They are laced with chemicals and absolutely can be causing your headaches. Instead, use REAL sugar or Stevia (all natural herbal sweetener available in health food stores). It is best to always eat the food in as natural form as possible; that will always be fresh. Steer clear of the internal isles in the grocery store where all the packaged and processed foods are located. Instead, shop on the outer isles, spending most of your time in the produce section! Buy a new cookbook that focuses on preparing natural, fresh, food and start cooking! If you are struggling with headaches, you really need to dissect everything you’re eating to determine if any of your “regular” foods are contributing to this problem. One of the easiest ways to do this is to keep a daily journal. Get a spiral bound notebook that you can carry with you. Everyday, write down everything you eat or drink and log the times of your headaches. This way, you can find out your trigger foods and then make the necessary nutritional changes in your life.

You can get relief from headaches! As you can see from the chemical list above, there are a lot of possible ways that you might be ingesting these chemicals. They are known to contribute to many different varieties of headaches. So before you reach for a pharmaceutical drug, please explore your diet and what you’re consuming everyday that might be causing your headaches. There are alternatives to chemical-laden food….buying fresh, organic, and preparing your own meals (rather than eating out all the time) so you have control about what goes in body. Your body will thank you for that extra care and you will find yourself feeling better than ever!

Alternative Relief for Anxiety

It seems like aromatherapy is everywhere, from our dish soap to little smelly bottles found even at gas stations. It is main stream, but I’ll caution you – all oils aren’t created equal. But when you’re using truly medicinal oils, aromatherapy is a great addition to anxiety therapy.
Oils work super fast, that’s just one of the reasons why I love them. Our nose can process aroma and we react to it faster than our brain can process it. Sight, sound, taste, and touch are processed by the brain before we have an emotional reaction. Smell is the most basic of senses, even the most ancient of creatures process chemicals.
What that means for you and me is if we are experiencing an unpleasant emotion and then inhale an essential oil that has properties known to calm the sympathetic nervous system, we respond quickly. When our sympathetic nervous system is in overdrive, we experience anxiety, panic … AKA: fight or flight.
Problem is that almost all of the essential oils being sold are chemically changed or altered in some way. You might be thinking, “So what?”. Well, most of these chemicals used to expand or make bad oils test like good oils in a lab are toxic to our nervous system. They are also toxic to our liver and endocrine glands. Just what we need if we’re experiencing anxiety right? We’re already experiencing stress in those areas of our body that is why we feel the way we do. Then add more chemicals, it’s a big problem.
People think rubbing or whiffing some lavender from the local health food store is going to help their anxiety. What they don’t know is that they could be getting a good dose of chemicals like toluene and methyl ethyl ketone – both are extremely toxic. I have known people who purchased health food store oils and wound up in their doctors office having seizures. Their blood results showed they were being exposed to toxic chemicals, which traced back to the chemically altered ‘frankincense’ they thought they were saving money on.
Don’t let this stop you from using essential oils. Using safe quality essential oils like Young Living Essential Oils will work faster than any Xanax; at least that was one lady’s experience with Stress Away. She said “I’d start to feel that wave of panic coming on, I’d pull out my oil and take a good deep breath and I was fine”. Some oils I’ve used to help me relax are Peace and Calming, Lavender, Valor, RutaVala, and Frankincense. All of these oils also help me feel more balanced and centered. Anxiety therapy hasn’t smelled so good!

PRODUCT TESTIMONY:
Our 7 year old son has struggled with episodes of low blood sugar for a while now. If he didn't eat every 3 hours or so during the day his blood sugar would drop. Inflammation and what it can do to our body!

Recently I listened to a training call about the damage inflammation can cause to our body. I thought I would share what I learned with you in this issue. A few years ago I attended a seminar held by a local doctor who discussed the harmful affect of inflammation. I heard much of the same information on the training call and what I learned both times is that inflammation in the body is the cause of everything.

It is like a burning fire inside our body. So, here we go…….

Let’s begin with some causes of inflammation?

#1 Cause is STRESS – our emotions are killing us. We all know how dangerous it is to keep anger bottled up inside of us. If we hold on to anger it is destroying our body by going to the liver. It gets trapped there and then the process of free radicals begins and our immune system begins to break down. The natural response to injury or insult to the body is inflammation. What happens next is you go to the doctor and you are told that your cholesterol level is too high. The doctor puts you on a statin drug to lower it. So now your symptoms are being treated but the root of the problem is left untreated. Cholesterol is not the root problem but the inflammation is and that is something the doctors don’t tell us . We are constantly being told to keep the cholesterol down when in fact we should be told to keep the stress level down. Why is that?



#2 Cause is ENVIRONMENTAL TOXINS. Such as the fire retardant products in new carpet, pesticides, hair care and body products and the list goes on and on. Seems like each day more people are educating themselves on the benefits of organic and natural products. Before I started using these oils I really never gave a thought to the fact the vegetables and fruits we eat have been sprayed with pesticides that are harmful to us. I certainly think about it now though!! (By the way, Lemon oil is great to use on produce and vegetables to remove the pesticides. Put a few drops in water and spritz. )



Are you allergic to anything? If so, you may be pro-inflammatory because as I mentioned earlier that is the body’s natural response to injury or insult. You may want to schedule an appointment with me to discuss this further.



So what do we do about it and how do we get inflammation under control?? Controlling the diet is the least effective way. The best way to control inflammation is to reduce STRESS.

God is So Good

While on a recent mission trip to Nicaragua I met two sick people and one had a very high temperature. As we stood by her the translater told us she had been sick for a very long time. There were a couple of different issuses going on with her one being spiritual and one being physical. God nudged me to ask her if she would like me to apply some oils for healing. We prayed over her for healing and also took with us what she thought was causing her spiritual conflict. We saw her later that night when she came to church and she was fever free and feeling a lot better. God heard our prayers and used us to speak HIS truth to her.

The other lady had a very sore throat when we arrived. I offered her oils and after using them for three days her throat was much better.

Thank you God for giving us these essential oils that come from your plants and trees. You knew we would be a victim of our environment and you provided what we would need to get better.
